Do we have ownership of our genetic data?

A discussion of the issues arising from the controversial story covered in Naked Genetics about genetic data, race and participant consent. Last year, two whistle blowers were fired from the Sanger Institute in Cambridge after their allegations of ethical misconduct. They claim that the Sanger was planning to commercialise some genetic data without permission of the original participants. Sanger denies any wrong doing and was exonerated.
