New Study of Police Stop and Search within British Muslim Communities
Dr Julian Hargreaves, Research Fellow at the Woolf Institute, has just had an article published in The British Journal of Criminology. The article reports a study of police stop and search within British Muslim communities using data from the Crime Survey of England and Wales. The study revealed that, while British Muslims were no more likely to be stopped by the police between 2006 and 2011, being Muslim dramatically increased the likelihood of being searched. The article also calls for the reform of police recording practices.
