Panel Discussion: Hope and Fear in Response to Religious Diversification
Overview

Religious diversification, particularly in very heterogeneous places such as London, is connected to some of today’s most controversial political questions. This panel event with leading politicians, religious experts and activists from London will discuss how to respond to the rapidly evolving challenges of around economic depravation, racism, Islamophobia, extremism, and gender-based discrimination in the UK's most ethnically and religiously diverse areas.
Bringing together people who have to deal with these questions on an everyday basis, this panel seeks to address the question, under what circumstances does religious and ethnic diversification cause conflict, and how can these conflicts be attenuated?
The panelists are:
Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council
Aliya Azam MBE, member of the education board of two Muslim schools and the Religious Education Council (REC)
Humera Khan, co-founder of the Muslim women's organisation An-Nisa
Martin Francis, blogger, author of Wembleymatters, chair of governors of Chalkhill Primary School
Prof John Dunn, Fellow of King’s College, professor emeritus of Politics and International Studies
Tobias Müller, post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Woolf Institute and College Research Associate at King’s College
