The Woolf Institute at the 2017 Festival of Ideas
This Michaelmas the Woolf Institute will give three major lectures at the 2017 Festival of Ideas.
This University-wide celebration of arts, humanities and social sciences brings together over 150 free events, from lectures for adults, to performances and activities for all ages and is gathered around the theme of "Truth".
- On Monday 16th October, Dr Edward Kessler, Dr Atif Imtiaz and Canon Chris Chivers will discuss: "Religious truth in an age of diversity?", considering how a commitment to diversity combines with the seemingly exclusivist truth claims of the different faiths.
- On Saturday 21 October: 3:30pm - 5:00pm, Julian Hargreaves, Andrew Preston, Sara Silvestri and Esra Ozyurek will address: Manufacturing a clash of civilizations, exploring the various ways in which populist leaders promote the concept of global schisms based on cultural differences. [Please note Booking is required for this event]
- On Sunday 29th October Dr Jan Jonathan-Bock will present his ethnographic research on the L'Aquila earthquake trial.
All events are free to attend and open to the public. For any further details please get in touch, otherwise we look forward to seeing you at the Festival.
