Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees
Trixie Brenninkmeijer grew up in Germany from a Dutch mother and German father. She started a career in retail and worked in that until marrying Stephen Brenninkmeijer in 1981. Together they have lived in America, Japan and have now been in the UK for almost 30 years. Together they have seven children and ten grandchildren.
Trixie felt lucky to have been a full-time mother and took the job very seriously.
In the 30 years that the family has been in England, Trixie has involved herself in many charities and organisations. These organisations included, driving for meals on wheels; chairing the parish council; board member of the Helen Bamber Foundation with responsibility for fundraising and supporting AMREF; and lately, involving herself in combatting human trafficking, especially the long-term care of trafficked victims from the sex-industry.
Trixie graduated in 2010 as a Psychosynthesis counsellor and worked in that capacity in a women-only centre for two years. This has enabled her to bring additional knowledge and experience to the organisation she chooses to involve herself in, on a level that is more hands-on than theoretical.
In additional to her Trustee position at the Woolf Institute, Trixie has been appointed Deputy Chair to the Board and has been entrusted with responsibility for the Nomination Committee. She hopes that she can help the Institute to grow and develop into the leader of its kind.
