Junior Research Fellow
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFSQ), together with the Woolf Institute in Cambridge and the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, is the recipient of a research award from the Qatar National Research Fund.
The study proposes the first cross-country comparison of interfaith initiatives in Qatar, UK and India to determine how best to assess their effectiveness in improving interfaith relations. The proposed study will be the first ever to examine the effectiveness of interfaith initiatives and to conduct empirical research in multiple locations.
The Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will be based in Doha for the life of the project, with regular travel to India. At the same time, the JRF will work closely with the PIs based in Cambridge - Dr Edward Kessler and Dr Shana Cohen.
This position is full-time during the three-year award period. The successful candidate may be considered for employment during the full life of the grant or for a portion thereof. The position will start in August 2015.
The Junior Research Fellow will play a critical role in conducting field research in Delhi and Doha, maintaining communication between the UK and Qatar, and gathering background information. Specifically, the JRF will:
- Facilitate and maintain communication amongst the research team.
- Be responsible for background research and information gathering.
- Assist the Lead-PI and PI in the UK in preparations for the fieldwork components of the project, including interview content.
- Conduct interviews and focus groups in Doha and Delhi.
- Assist in analysis and writing-up of research findings.
- Prepare all project outcome documents.
- Function as a communication conduit and first point of contact between the LPI, Co-LPI, PIs and other SFSQ research and administrative personnel and manage continuous follow-up on all administrative aspects of the project's workflow.
- Applicants should have a PhD or be a candidate for a PhD in a relevant subject area (Social Sciences or Humanities with knowledge of comparative religions).
- The candidate will preferably have conversational Arabic skills and experience living in the Middle East, South Asia or both.
- The successful candidate will also ideally have some exposure to evaluation methods and/or qualitative research, but if not, will receive training from the PIs.
