Conclusion of Papal Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
27 May 2014
This Monday marked the conclusion of Pope Francis historic pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Including a visit to Bethlehem, Gethsemene, the Dome of the Rock, Yad Vashem and the Western Wall, Pope Francis used his pilgrimage as a call for peace, asking the three monotheistic faiths, "all communities who look to Abraham" not to "abuse the name of God through violence".
Pope Francis followed an open-air mass in Manger Square with an invitation to the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Israeli president, Shimon Peres, to join him in Rome to meet and pray together for peace visit.
The visit concluded with the celebration of Mass at the Cenacle, the traditional place of Jesus’ last supper.
