CPE STUDY DAY: Diversity in End of Life Care

On Tuesday 3rd July the Centre for Public Education delivered a course to Barts Health NHS Trust on 'Diversity in End of Life Care: A Muslim/Jewish Case Study'.This one-day course offered a variety of participants, from chaplains, nurses, social workers and bereavement advisers, an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge to engage confidently with patients and their families in conversations about end of life care in cases affected by religious beliefs and practices, with particular reference to Islam and Judaism.
Subjects covered included:
- Cultural vs. Religious Issues
- Definition of death
- What it means to be religious
- Withholding & withdrawing treatment
- Withholding & withdrawing nutrition & hydration
- The role of Chaplains
This course was awarded with 6 CPD credits from the Royal College of Physicians and was delivered free to all internal candidates at The Barts Health NHS Trust.
