Catholic-Jewish Relations Today: from Nostra Aetate (1965) to The Gifts and Calling of God are Irrevocable (2015)
26 January 2016
The publication of Nostra Aetate during the course of the Second Vatican Council revolutionised the relations of the Catholic Church with other religions and especially Judaism, strongly urging interfaith reflection, collaboration, and action.
Prof Anna Sapir Abulafia (Oxford University), Prof Gavin D'Costa (Bristol University) Rabbi Prof Jonathan Magonet (World Union for Progressive Judaism) and Very Rev Dom Henry Wansbrough OSB (Ampleforth Abbey) spoke at a seminar jointly organised by the Woolf Institute and The Von Hügel Institute on 14th January 2016.
On the fiftieth anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the Vatican's Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews has published a new document exploring theological issues in the Christian-Jewish encounter. This distinguished group Catholic and Jewish scholars discussed and assessed the significance of this new document. Their lectures will be published in 2017.
