The Woolf Institute developed through the creation of three centres of study: The Centre for the Study of Jewish-Christian Relations (CJCR), The Centre for the Study of Muslim-Jewish Relations (CMJR) and the Centre for Policy and Public Education (CPPE). In 2010, these centres were amalgamated under the designation of the Woolf Institute, in honour of Lord Harry Woolf, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.
